Note: the training module has been designed with a lived experience perspective and included in the video material.

"Engaging with Parents" is one hour session based on Emerging minds training module.

The mental health recovery journey is multifaceted and connected to the significant relationships in people’s lives. Roles and responsibilities such as parenting and our relationship with our children are key to this. Working with parents within our mental system should be seen as a core component of clinicians work and this training aims to assist in building clinicians skills and knowledge in support the parenting role.

The objectives of this training are as follows:

1.Understand the importance supporting of engaging parents

a)Obligations to children- mental health Act/ OCP Engaging with Families and carers guidelines/ local policy and procedures// C&YP Act ? // family violence

b)Supporting recovery- relational recovery

c)Relapse prevention

2.Describe the hesitancies (parent and clinician) associated with engaging parents

a)Although these discussions are fairly simple ‘ordinary ‘ undertakings clinicians can be uncertain

3.Increase their confidence and ability to engage parents

a)Engaging with people is everyone’s bread and butter in mental health. Often clinicians will have had little contact with parents of young children of their case load. We hope today’s session provides some validation for the work you already do and encouragement to do more.

4.Identify documentation processes for their local service

This is a one hour online session . A didactic teaching style with the use of the zoom chat function to encourage discussion and video material shared .
